Visitation will be on Friday, March 27, 2009, at Webb Funeral Home from 9 until 11 a.m. Interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery, and James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Reeves, 93, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was born June 10, 1915, to Walter and Cora Johnson in Suqualena, Miss. She graduated from Suqualena High School in 1934.
After she married Jim Chandler, they moved to Vicksburg, where she continued her career in cosmetology with Hunter’s Beauty Salon. During World War II, they moved to New York where Jim worked on the Manhattan Project. After the war, they returned to Vicksburg where they raised their sons, and she was very active in the First Baptist Church.
In 1969, Lucile married Wood Hall, and they enjoyed nine wonderful years. At the age of 68, she married Bill Reeves, a former classmate. They made their home in Meridian, where they were faithful members of First Baptist Church. After Bill’s death in 2005, Lucile moved to the Home Place in Madison, Miss., to be near her son and his family. Her family describes Lucile as having a “loving spirit and deep abiding faith — a truly beautiful person who shares and cares.” She was a “light” and inspiration for everyone.
She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Chandler and his wife, Karen, of Madison and Paul Chandler and his wife, Lori, of Plano, Texas; one sister, Dr. Sula Johnson Marsalis and her husband, Wilton, of Meridian; stepdaughter, Sandra Holton of Meridian; and stepsons, Billy Reeves of Port O’Conner, Texas, and Eugene Hall of Vicksburg. “Grandmother” leaves behind four grandchildren, Kim Chandler Moss and her husband, Clayton, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Dr. Kevin Chandler of Jackson, and Beckett Chandler and Alexa Chandler McMillan of Plano. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.
The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to her “special friends,” Oria Bush and Maxine George, for their love and care for “Grandmother.”
Mrs. Reeves was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Reeves, Wood Hall and Jim Chandler; her parents; her brothers, Homer, Lamar, Mortimer and Mart Johnson; and her sisters, Lurline Cook, Lillian Rhodes and Zula Williamson.
The family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church of Meridian, P.O. Box 1509, Meridian, MS 39302; The Home Place, 7521 Old Canton Road, Madison, MS 39110; or Hospice Ministries, P.O. Box 1228, Ridgeland, MS 39158.
