Eastvillage news is that better days are expected

A sure sign that better days are expected is that developers of Eastvillage subdivision have been moving ahead, anticipating initial home construction in their 57-acre project at Lee Road and Old Highway 27.
The design is appealing for many reasons. In a story reported last week, Robert Morrison III explained that smaller lots on rolling topography should help neighbors be neighborly. Aesthetic qualities will include the topography, with existing trees supplemented by newly planted flora, and the fact that facades, at least, will mirror existing Vicksburg homes built from about 1830 to 1930.
In sum, it is a thoughtful, planned area where property values are likely to remain high for many, many years. This is a welcomed departure from rapid construction now in vogue for many homes and apartment developments, where getting them built and getting them sold is the priority eclipsing all other considerations.
Another plus is that Eastvillage lots and homes will be offered at prices competitive in the Vicksburg market. With lots ranging from $55,000 to $105,000 and projected home costs from $200,000 to $500,000, the prices aren’t for everyone, but they’re not ridiculous either.
A down side of news from the developers is that they have shelved, for now, a row of townhouses planned for Washington Street.
But utilities have been extended, roads have been built and construction is soon to begin in Eastvillage. It will be a quality development, a sign of better times to come.
