“We like to encourage all of our members to participate in the show,” said Leslie Horton, show chairman.

Categories are 3-D, acrylic, computer graphics, drawing, fiber, mixed media, oil, photo-color, photo-mono, print-making and watercolor. This year’s special category is In the Garden. Art in any medium with a garden theme can be entered.

Registration will be April 18 and 20, and the fee is $15 for as many as three pieces.

“You don’t have to be an accomplished artist to show,” Horton said. “It’s interesting when we have a variety of talented artists.”

Horton said jewelry and texture pieces have even been entered in the show.

The VAA will award cash prizes for the three best in show and a $200 David A. Leenknecht award will be given in the photography category. The People’s Choice award will be chosen by show attendees

The VAA has a fall show, during which pieces are sold. Artists who enter the spring show are not required to sell their works.

“The art association is not just for artists, but for all people who enjoy art,” said Horton. “New members are welcome to join anytime.”

The VAA meets monthly from September to May at the Firehouse Gallery, at Main and Openwood streets.
