Bolton man pens book on Sultana

Alan Huffman, an author and journalist from Bolton, has penned “Sultana: Surviving the Civil War, Prison and the Worst Maritime Disaster in American History.”

The book is about the wreckage of the Sultana, a ship that left Vicksburg during the Civil War via the Mississippi River. The vessel was carrying 2,400 soldiers when its boilers exploded, causing it to sink. About 1,700 were killed. The event was dubbed the worst maritime disaster in American history.
