Crews to clean highways Thursday

Work crews from the Mississippi Department of Transportation will pick up litter on area roadways Thursday, part of the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup.

The annual Trash Bash is held in each of MDOT’s districts to promote public awareness of the negative impact litter has on the state.

* Warren County: I-20 from Flowers to the Big Black River.

* Sharkey and Issaquena counties: U.S. 61 from Rolling Fork to Anguilla.

* Claiborne and Jefferson counties: Mississippi 547 from two miles north and south of Pattison.

More than 60 percent of litter is intentional, MDOT estimates, and costs the state more than $2 million annually.
