Warren County Board of Supervisors agenda items

Meeting Thursday, Warren County supervisors:

* Ended efforts to seek a Community Development Block Grant to pay for repairs to LeTourneau Road because of job creation requirements.

Plant officials at LeTourneau Technologies did not sign off on a $1.5 million grant program administered by the Mississippi Development Authority because the facility was not confident about meeting employment minimums tied to the money. An .8-mile section of the eastbound lane remains graveled and bumpy following a washout caused by last spring’s flooding on the Mississippi River. The road is the primary access to the plant, which cut its labor force by a third in 2008 due to the recession.

* County engineers reported progress on the replacement of the E.W. Haining Road bridge at the Port of Vicksburg.

As work continued today by contract crews to clear brush from alongside the road, officials said Entergy has agreed to take certain power lines out of service to speed up other phases of the $6.8 million project.

Right-of-way payments concerning municipal gas lines that cross railroad property remain under legal review.

* Took under consideration a draft report by county engineers on a policy that would govern speed bumps in residential areas.

To be decided is whether renters would be able to sign a petition or whether participation should be limited to owners of such dwellings.

* Agreed to manage $71,241.84 in federal stimulus cash if awarded to the state Department of Public Safety to hire someone in the District Attorney’s Office to work with victims of sexual and domestic abuse.
