DELTA CITY — Ruth Vernell Dunnaway Kent died Saturday, April 18, 2009, in Prescott, Ariz. She was 91.

Mrs. Kent was born in Delta City, where she attended school. She moved to Greenville, where she worked at Rosella’s until she retired and moved to Vicksburg for several years before moving to Prescott.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.E. and Nonie Vernell; three brothers, Louie Vernell, Hewie Vernell and W.E. Vernell Jr.; and six sisters, Nonnie Chapman, Zenobia Sheppard, A.C. Vernell, Nettie Weeks, Vivian Clinkscales and Thelma Carr.

Mrs. Kent is survived by one son, James “Pete” Dunnaway; a daughter, Frances “Frankie” Morris; many grandchildren in Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews in the South Delta.

Services will be at Delta City Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Nick Smith officiating, followed by services at Vickland Cemetery.
