Alton Price Holmes III

TALLULAH — Funeral services for Mr. Alton Price Holmes III, 36, of Tallulah were held at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Interment followed at Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Alton was born April 14, 1973. He passed away on April 25, 2009, at home with his loving family by his side after a long battle with cancer.
Alton grew up in Tallulah and graduated from Tallulah Academy. He attended Mississippi State University and graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural business. He was employed in farm chemical sales at Madison Farm Supply and then at United Agricultural Products. He later turned to farming full time as owner of APH Farms in Madison Parish.
Alton was an avid sportsman who made many hunting trips throughout the United States, Argentina and Canada. His other favorite pastimes included trail riding, fishing and spending time with his family at Lake Bruin. He was active in many civic, community and church activities and will be missed by a host of friends who will remember him for his generosity to them and his courage throughout his battle with illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alton Price Holmes Jr. of Tallulah; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Price Holmes Sr. of Winona; and maternal grandfather, Robert Benton Alsup of Trumann, Ark.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Miller Holmes; two daughters, Sidnee Beth and Laurel Ann Holmes, and one son, Clayton Holmes, all of Tallulah; his mother, Judy A. Holmes of Flower Mound, Texas; a sister, Jennifer Holmes Williams and husband Dean; two nephews, Jon Benton and Price, and one niece, Eve, all of Argyle, Texas; and a grandmother, Mrs. Robert Benton Alsup of Trumann.
Pallbearers were Rodney Butts, David Dennis, Darryl Ellerbee, Michael Hanlon, Clark Hill, Jonathan Hopkins and Mac Marsh.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Charles Brown, Charles Grady and Chip Sullivan.
