Dorothy Elizabeth Sims Palermo

Dorothy Elizabeth Sims Palermo died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Covenant  Health and Rehab Center of Vicksburg, following a lengthy illness. She was 80.

Mrs. Palermo was the widow of Robert Costello Palermo of Vicksburg, who died in 1985. She was the daughter of the late Eulle Morland Sims Sr. and the late Eula Mae Sims of Vicksburg.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Mrs. Palermo had worked in a variety of administrative and bookkeeping positions in Vicksburg, including at Sears-Roebuck and Co., the Vicksburg City Clerk’s office, the Vicksburg Evening Post and the Bettye K dress shop. She also served as a resident manager for The Vicksburg apartments during her retirement years.

She is survived by her son, Michael Robert Palermo and his wife, Rose Mary, of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Robert C. Palermo II of San Diego, Calif., Gregory Michael Palermo of Vicksburg and Angela Marie Palermo Towers and her husband, Aaron, of Durham, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Harriet Brice Sims of Vicksburg; a nephew, Russell Lane Sims and his wife, Cheryl; a great-nephew, John Thomas Sims; and two great-nieces, Kelli Sims and Mollie Sims, all of West Monroe, La.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Eulle Morland “Buddy” Sims Jr.; and a niece, Cheryl Ann Sims, both of Vicksburg.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with Monsignor Patrick Farrell, pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church, and the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from noon until the service.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
