Mr. Walter T. Miller, 86, died May 28, 2009, at Promise Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. LaDon Dawson and the Rev. Billy Gerald officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Mr. Miller was born and reared in Drew, Miss. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University, and he served in World War II in France. He moved to Vicksburg in the early 1950s and worked for the Vicksburg District of the Corps of Engineers, where he was chief of the automated data processing center. He retired in 1981.
He worked with the Grand Council of the Order of DeMolay and the Boy Scouts. He was a past master of W.G. Paxton Masonic Lodge and was the oldest living member of the lodge. He was an active member of the First Methodist Protestant Church where, over the years, he served as Sunday school teacher, board member, audio technician and choir member and worked in other areas of the Lord’s house.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Odie and Mabel Miller; and his brother, Joseph Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline Noble Miller; two daughters, Loretta McKinney and her husband, David, of Montgomery, Ala., and Leanne Gilcrease and her husband, Rickey, of Bossier City, La.; one brother, O.W. Miller of Cleveland, Miss.; and three grandchildren, Allison Mc-Kinney, Sean McKinney and Caitlyn Gilcrease.
Pallbearers will be Sean McKinney, David Noble, Justin Rushing, Brien Biedenharn, Brad Noble and Craig Noble.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Goza, Luther Newton, Robert Quimby, David Turner, Bobby Polk, Charlie Joe Green, James Mason, Bill Bagley and Harvie Oliver.
