Jabe Nappier

Jabe “Tenny” Nappier died Friday, May 29, 2009, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Miss. He was 71.

Mr. Nappier was a native of Ruston, La., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1958. He was a paint contractor who worked for his brother, J.L. Nappier, before starting his own business, Jabe Nappier Paint Contractor and Sandblasting, which he operated until his death. Mr. Nappier was a staff sergeant in the Armed Forces, Army National Guard of Mississippi and Army Reserve for six years. He was a master Mason in the Steven’s Masonic Lodge in Vicksburg and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Nappier was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Bessie Nappier; his infant daughter, Terry Jean Nappier; brothers, John Tom and James Lavell “J.L.” Nappier; a sister, Maxine Pesnell; and nephew, Randy Pesnell.

Survivors include a sister, Jerlene Gassaway of Ruston; nieces, Cathy Hall and Cheryl Cooke of Vicksburg, Renae Swint of Baton Rouge, Vicki Pickett of Ruston and Margaret Webb, Terri Lucas and Suellen Alker, all of Birmingham; a nephew, Keith Nappier of Houston; step-nephew, Freddy Schuler of Vicksburg; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be noon Monday until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Jack Mims, Ricky Brown, Jim Davidson, Jimmy Tuggle, Keith Angelo and Jason Angelo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Freddy Schuler, Phillip Gardner, Willie Green and Bob McDuff.
