STRAIGHT BAYOU — Henry Luther Dewitt Hodnett died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. He was 69.

Mr. Hodnett was a lifelong resident of Straight Bayou. He was a farmer.

He was a member of Straight Bayou Baptist Church, which he attended for 41 years without missing a Sunday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Hughey Hodnett and Beatrice Skeen Hodnett; and a sister, Sarah Frances Hodnett.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara McCoy Hodnett of Straight Bayou; one son, Tim Hodnett and wife Valerie of Straight Bayou; one daughter, Sarah Hodnett of Straight Bayou; three brothers, Bill Hodnett and wife Ruth, Reuben Hodnett and wife Jane and Gene Hodnett and wife Carolyn, all of Straight Bayou; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lucky and Hunter Hodnett.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Straight Bayou Baptist Church with Tom Metcalf, pastor, and James Smith, family friend and mission team leader, officiating. Burial will follow at Straight Bayou Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork. Visitation will be at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Hodnett, Tommy Scates, John Scates, Mike Johnson, Richard Jenkins and Randolph Rainey.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Straight Bayou Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Straight Bayou Baptist Church or to the Baptist Children’s Village.
