Cheryl Virginia Moore McCloskey

EDGEWOOD, Ky. — Cheryl Virginia Moore McCloskey, age 65, was born Feb. 9, 1944, in Vicksburg to the late Willie and Virginia Emrick Moore and died in Edgewood, Ky., June 11, 2009.
She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English and humanities from the University of Louisville and Northern Kentucky University; taught school for 30 years in Kentucky and Cincinnati public schools; wrote two genealogy books and one with her sister, Carita Curtis; was a member of many lineage societies, including First Families of Mississippi, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations and Founders of New Jersey; president (2004-present) and national treasurer (2007-present) for Daughters of Colonial Wars; Kentucky treasurer (2006-present) for Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century; Kentucky chaplain for Colonial Dames XVII Century; and was a member of The Red Hat Society, Fort Mitchell Baptist Church, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and the Kentucky and Hamilton County Retired Teachers’ Associations.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lillie Mosley Rodd, Christopher William Emrick Moore, Crystal Gaye Moore and Christia Moore Summitt; and her stepfather, Donald Hill.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas McCloskey; three sons, Colin, Malcolm (Meagan) and Morgan (Jennifer) McCloskey of northern Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Alexandria, Madison, Mason, Reese, Riley, Penelope and Solomon McCloskey; one adopted grandson, Julian McCloskey; two sisters, Cynthia (Greg) LeBre of Madison, Ind., and Carita (Jeff) Curtis of Louisville, Ky.; four nephews, Jonah Curtis, Aaron Lucariello, Jacob Summitt and Keagan LeBre; two nieces, Rachael Daniel and Allegra LeBre; three great-nephews, Branden Curtis, Kevin Lucariello and Skylar Bowen; three great-granddaughters, Rebecca, Hayley and Brooke Daniel; and many other relatives.
Services will be Thursday, June 18, 2009, with burial at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville.
