From staff reports
The Vicksburg National Military Park will waive admission fees three weekend this summer.
The first is this weekend, starting Saturdays and ending Sunday. The next two are July 18-19 and Aug. 15-16.
“The administration has decided to do it for the people who have been hit by the recession,” said park historian Terry Winschel. “Once you’re in, you can take advantage of what the park has to offer,” said Winschel.
Admission is $8 per car or truck, and the pass is valid for seven days. Rates vary for vans, buses and commercial groups. Visitors can also purchase an annual pass, good for 12 months, for $20.
Other free entry days include the anniversary of National Park Service on Aug. 25, National Public Lands Day on Sept. 26 and Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
