City man charged with larceny, stolen gun

A Vicksburg man was being held without bond in the Issaquena County Jail this morning charged with grand larceny and possession of a stolen firearm.

Grant Jones, 20, 320 Fisher Ferry Road, was arrested at 2 p.m. Wednesday at River City Pawn Shop after he attempted to pawn a Husqvarna chain saw that was reported missing earlier in the day from a Ford-F-250 in the 1400 block of Chambers Street, said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

Also reported missing from the vehicle was a Stihl hedge trimmer valued at $460, a Redmax weed trimmer valued at $500 and a Redmax leaf blower valued at $450, said Stewart.

The only item recovered was the chain saw, said Stewart.

During Jones’ arrest, police recovered a 38-caliber revolver reported by the New Orleans Police Department as missing, said Stewart.

Vicksburg woman held for counterfeit check

A Vicksburg woman was in the Issaquena County Jail this morning accused of passing a fake check.

Theresa Odoms, 29, 535 Hall Road, was arrested at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday at her home and charged with uttering a forgery, said Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department.

Odoms is accused of passing a counterfeit check valued at $1,400 on April 24, said Stewart.

She was held without bond.

Vicksburg soldier held for desertion

A Vicksburg man was in the Issaquena County Jail this morning accused of deserting the U.S. Army.

Joshua Lyle, 17, 101 Shady Lane, was arrested at 10:46 a.m. Wednesday at Halls Ferry Road and Melrose Avenue during a traffic stop after a warrant for his arrest was found, said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

He was held pending a pickup by the Army.

Three arrested, held for probation violation

A Vicksburg man and a Clarksdale man were in the Warren County Jail this morning for probation violation.

Christopher M. Hayes, 21, 110 Bristler Road, was arrested at 5 p.m. Wednesday and held for Mississippi Department of Corrections without bond, jail records said.

Jimmy Pate, 34, 1006 Six St., Clarksdale, was arrested at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday and held without bond, jail records said.

Separately, another Vicksburg man was arrested for violating probation Wednesday and held at Issaquena County Jail this morning.

Tony Clayton Keene, 30, 4407 Halls Ferry Road, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. and held without bond.

Two Vicksburg drivers injured in wreck on 80

Two Vicksburg drivers were injured in a two-car wreck on U.S. 80 Wednesday evening.

Rachael Redditt, 27, 102 Greyline Drive, and Michael Johnson, 49, 3423 N. Washington St., were taken to River Region Medical Center, a spokesman for the Vicksburg Fire Department, which operates the city’s ambulance service, said this morning. Their conditions were not available.

Redditt was eastbound in a 2001 Nissan Sentra, and Johnson was westbound at 6:28 when the cars collided at 629 U.S. 80, said Mississippi Highway Trooper Wayne Smith.

A phone call to River Region was not returned.

Five escape as fire damages mobile home

Five children escaped without injury from a burning mobile home off U.S. 80 Monday night, officials said.

The blaze at the mobile home at 400 Ashwood Drive was reported at 7:26.

The children’s names and ages were not available.

No adults were home, said Warren County Fire Coordinator Kelly Worthy.

He said 22  firefighters from the Culkin and Bovina volunteer departments fought the blaze for 35 minutes and contained it to one room.

Washer, dryer, bow missing in burglaries

Two residential burglaries were reported in the city and county Wednesday.

• A General Electric washer and dryer set valued at $600 was reported missing at 1:48 p.m. from a home in the 3000 block of Wisconsin Avenue.

• A Matthews compound camouflage bow valued at $800, an SKS rifle valued at $75 and a Contender 30-30 Barrel and Scope pistol valued at $1,000 were reported missing at 6:57 p.m. from a home in the 100 block of Pinehurst Street.

Separately, two auto burglaries were reported in the city and county Wednesday.

• Missing from a vehicle, no description given, at 2:42 p.m. in the 200 block of Azalea Lane was $2.

• A 10-inch DVD monitor valued at $500 was reported missing at 5:18 p.m. from a 2000 Lincoln Navigator in the 700 block of Blossom Lane.

Mountain bike missing on Washington Street

A business burglary was reported in the city Wednesday.

A Mongoose mountain bike valued at $100 was reported missing at 9:49 a.m. from Whitehead’s Repair Shop, 2628 Washington St.
