I would like to thank all the parents who participated in my first annual literacy program, which began June 8 and ended July 10.
Students in grades kindergarten through second grade were taught essential reading, writing and math skills to help them become more successful in their academic endeavors.
I would also like to thank my family and friends for their prayers and support.
I will be offering tutorial services from kindergarten through fourth grade this upcoming school year.
Thanks again to all of the parents for their support.

Keep progress going
I would like to say a big thank you to former Mayor Laurence Leyens for all the good things he did for Vicksburg. Hope all is well for him and his family wherever they settle down. It may be in another city that needs a working mayor.
I also hope Mr. Mayfield keeps things going for progress. A lot of casino dollars come to the city. I have been watching the amounts published in the paper. It is sad so little goes to the county and especially the schools. Education is very important for future generations.
I agree with a lot of others that the new mayor should put all his time in Vicksburg and put his Port Gibson business on hold for four years.

Hospital hospitable
With all the comments about River Region Medical Center in the paper and other places, I feel compelled to offer my comment.
In early June, I was admitted for what would be a 2 1/2-week stay. I have not been sick before, and this stay was new to me. I stayed in two different rooms on different floors and the ICU for a while, so this is not for just one location.
I was treated in each area as I was really an important patient. From the people who came into my rooms “just to empty my trash” to the doctors and nurses who attended to me, I have the utmost respect for each and every one of them. They are all trained professionals and they showed it each and every day. Everything was explained to me, and the tests that were given were to help me out. I never had anyone who wasn’t courteous to me.
For the experience that I had, I cannot thank the staff and everyone involved with my stay at River Regional Medical Center enough.
I cannot list every person involved for fear of missing someone, and I wouldn’t want to do that. I just want to thank everyone.
