Virtis Shorter Jr. died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 60.

Mr. Shorter was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vertis Shorter Sr.; his mother, Hattie C. Shorter; and a brother, Johnny Lee Shorter.

Survivors include one son, Virtis Shorter III of Tallulah; two brothers, Percy Shorter and John P. Shorter, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Theresa Edwards and Vera Wells, both of Vicksburg, and Frances D. Jones of Aurora, Ill.; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
