Lyman pitches M-Braves to win|Minor league baseball

PEARL — The Mississippi Braves took their second straight game from the Tennessee Smokies Thursday night, 2-1. Jeff Lyman threw seven scoreless innings to pick up his fifth win and Brett Butts earned his fourth save to lead the M-Braves to another one-run win. Willie Cabrera extended his hitting streak to 15 games and his on-base streak to 36 games.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth. Lyman got it started with a single and Concepcion Rodriguez followed by reaching on a fielder’s choice error. Travis Jones then doubled home Lyman to put the Braves on the board.

Mississippi was at it again one inning later. Willie Cabrera doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by JC Boscan.

Lyman fanned six and scattered five hits over seven frames to pick up his first win as a starter. Butts pitched two innings to collect the save.
