RAYVILLE, La. — Lawrence Woodrow “Lay” Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at his home in Rayville, La. He was 69.

Mr. Smith was a 1961 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School and attended Alcorn A&M College.

He was a member of Holly Ridge Baptist Church in Rayville and an associate member of East Mount Olive Baptist Church of Red Lick.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rayfield Smith, and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife, Clementine Smith of Rayville; his mother, Marie Smith of Chicago; a daughter, Sandra Smith of Chicago; a son, Cedric Smith of Chicago; three stepchildren; six sisters; two brothers; and nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at East Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Tracy Collins officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Tennant Funeral Home in Rayville.

Quiet hour will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at Holly Ridge Baptist Church, 1540 Highway 584 in Rayville.
