Fifth person arrested in grocery burglary

Another Vicksburg resident has been arrested in the burglary of Super Quick on Alcorn Drive on Monday, bringing the total to five.
Leon Williams Jr., 19, 3727 Parkview St., was charged with burglary when he was arrested at his home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Williams, was being held at police headquarters without bond, has not been charged in the Tuesday morning burglary of County Market grocery store at 2101 Clay St. The other four were charged in the grocery brerak-in, in which nothing was reported missing.
Missing from the convenience store were 27 cartons of cigarettes, Lucky 7 scratch-offs, a box of beer bottle-shaped cigarette lighters and prepaid phone cards.
The four arrested earlier are:
• Lakenya Smith, 19, 1717 Martin Luther King Drive, was charged with a commercial burglary.
• Robert Heads, 20, 103 Galtney Drive, commercial burglary and grand larceny.
• Benjamin Johnson, 20, no address available, commercial burglary and grand larceny.
• Alton Burden, 39, 4114 N. Washington St., commercial burglary and grand larceny.
Johnson, Smith and Heads were arrested in the 2000 block of Grove Street, and Burden was arrested at his home.
Heads and Johnson were being held on $75,000 bond; Williams, $50,000; and Smith, $25,000.
Burden was being held without bond because he was out on three felony bonds for burglary, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon, Stewart said.
All five were at the Warren County Jail this morning.
The arrests follow break-ins at County Market, a shoe store and a T-shirt shop within blocks of each other and where the four were arrested Tuesday.
City man charged with felony DUI
A Vicksburg man was charged with third offense driving under the influence after a traffic stop Tuesday night, police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
Michael Turner, 41, 229 High Hill Drive, was arrested at Porters Chapel Road and Holly Ridge Drive at 9:31 p.m.
He was being held on $15,000 bond at the Issaquena County Jail.
Three face charges by gaming police
Three Vicksburg people were in the Warren County Jail today, charged with grand larceny, records showed.
Anthony Lee Hill, 27, 2011 Temple St.; Nadia Richardson, 25, 106 Irene St.; and Melvin Richardson, 30, 1205 China St. were being held without bond pending initial court appearance.
The three were arrested by the Mississippi Gaming Commission police and no further information on their charges were available.
Three men held for drug court
Two Vicksburg men were in the Warren County Jail today on drug court sanction charges, records showed.
Lonnie Carson, 22, 104 Carver Drive, and Steven Heigle, 27, 145 Bradford Drive, were being held without bond.
Separately, a Joseph F. Brown, 24, 109 Churchhill Drive, was held without bond for a drug court violation, records show.
Cash, electronics, guns hot in city burglaries
A TV, handgun and video game console were among items reported missing in Vicksburg, police officials said.
About $50 was reported stolen from the Vicksburg Humane Society, 6600 U.S. 61 south, at 8:18 a.m. Tuesday.
A 52-inch Magnavox TV and an unknown amount of change was reported stolen from a home in the 3300 block of U.S. 61 at 5:46 p.m. Tuesday.
A break-in was reported at a home in the 2900 block of Park Avenue at 2:38 this morning. Nothing was reported missing.
A Tokarev 9 mm handgun valued at $300 was reported stolen from a 2002 GMC pickup in the 1200 block of Adams Street at 7:49 a.m. Monday.
A Magnavox DVD player valued at $30, a Sony PlayStation videogame console valued at $200 and nine PlayStation videogames valued at $170 were reported stolen form a home in the 1000 block of Urban Court at 1 p.m. Monday.
