Vicksburg man, juvenile held for auto burglary

A Vicksburg man and a juvenile were arrested early Saturday, accused of an auto burglary reported just 8 minutes earlier.

Alex Hawkins, 20, 780 U.S. 61 North Apt. 4F, and a juvenile were arrested as they were driving into the parking lot of Hawkins’ apartment complex after neighbors called 911 at 1:44 a.m. after seeing suspicious activity in the 200 block of Berryman Road, said Lt. Davey Barnette.

Hawkins and the juvenile are accused of taking a radio face plate and a carton of cigarettes from a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup parked in the area, he said.

Hawkins was in the Issaquena County Jail on a $10,000 bond, and the juvenile was at the Warren County Youth Detention Center.

City man charged with statutory rape

A Vicksburg man was released on a $30,000 bond from the Warren County Jail Saturday evening after being arrested for statutory rape.

Marvel D. Hunter, 18, 1841 Martin Luther King Blvd., was arrested at 8 p.m. Saturday by Vicksburg police and charged with two counts of statutory rape, jail records said.

No other information was available.
