James Smith Reed Jr. died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 54.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Reed was a 1972 graduate of Warren Central High School and attended Jackson State University.

He was a veteran of the Army and worked as a computer systems analyst/contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member and trustee of Travis A.M.E. Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Smith Reed Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Cecelia Reed of Vicksburg; two sons, Michael Reed and Jamie Reed, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Lindsay Reed and Krystal Reed, both of Vicksburg; his mother, Hazel Reed of Redwood; two sisters, Hazel Ragan of Killeen, Texas, and Annie Freeman of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren; and a niece, nephews and other relatives.
