Smokey and Sherry Burgess of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Cassie Newell, to Jamie Richard Key. Mr. Key is the son of Joe and Brenda Key of Vicksburg.

Miss Burgess is the granddaughter of Joseph and Betty Newell of Meridian.

Mr. Key is the grandson of Nettie Carver of Vicksburg and James and Joanne Buckner of Greenville.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Warren Central High School. She was a member of Vicksburg Cotillion Club and Sub-Debs.

She received a degree in interdisciplinary studies from Alcorn State University, where she was on the dean’s list.

Miss Burgess is employed at Dana Road Elementary and is pursuing a Master of Arts degree in teaching.

The prospective groom is a graduate of Porters Chapel Academy.

He received an associate degree from Hinds Community College, where he was on the dean’s list.

Mr. Key is employed at Applied Research Associates.

The wedding will be at 5 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009, at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. A reception will follow.
