Achievements

• Vicksburg students presented as part of the Hinds Community College Homecoming court in Raymond were sophomores MaQurisa “Pinky” Draper and Brittney Goodwin and freshmen LaToya Sims and Grace Ga-as.

Awards

• Vicksburg Catholic School has received a $750 grant from Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance Program to support the school’s Science Department. Waring Oil Company worked with school officials to secure the grant, which is one of 2,400 available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil stations.

Competitions

• Lindsey Garrard, a sophomore at Vicksburg High School, placed in the top 10 at the Mid-South Youth Talent Contest in Brookhaven. She competed in the country and pop/rock categories, in which she sang and played the violin. She is the daughter of Prentiss and Joan Garrard.

Citywide Observed Halloween Hours — 5-8 p.m. Oct. 31.

In brief

Warren Central High School’s band boosters will sponsor their annual Red Carpet Invitational Marching Band Competition and Clinic at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Warren Central. Admission is $5 and will benefit the Big Blue Band.
