The Vicksburg Post welcomes timely letters of thanks or salute that relate to a specific event or incident where the community was involved or invited. Letters must be original and signed with the author’s name. Letters may thank donors generally, but not include lists. Letters of more than 200 words will not be printed. OTRR over the top

Where do we start and where do we end with thanking those who encouraged, supported and participated in the 21st Annual Over the River Run? This was a new undertaking for the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation and a fun and exciting one at that.

Thanks to Ameristar, Central Mississippi Medical Center, Medical Associates of Vicksburg, Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, Good Samaritan Physical Therapy, Velocity Sports Performance, New Health Chiropractic Center, Mutual Credit Union and Hometown Medical for the financial backing.

Contributions from Bottled Water Plus, Budweiser, Coca-Cola, Coomes Produce, Waste Management, Chamber of Commerce, Sheffield Rentals, McDonald’s, Woodman of the World and Top Dollar Pawn were appreciated. So much cooperation came from Herman Smith with the bridge commission, Mississippi Track Club, MDOT, the military park, Vicksburg police and fire departments and EMTs, the sheriff’s department, Delta officials and the CMMC first aid team.

Volunteers included AmeriCorps, SCHF board members and Warren Central and Vicksburg high schools. Kudos to the photographers and media outlets for bringing this event to the public.

Thanks, Slaphappy, for making the after-party a good time. A pat on the back to the House of Awards and Joel Stroud and Marty Kittrell for the new logo.

Halls Ferry happy

I have never seen the tennis courts at Halls Ferry so lively.

The free lessons and activities offered by Rick Shields and Leonard Banks are wonderful. The City of Vicksburg is doing a great job by employing these gentlemen.

We enjoy the safe, well-illuminated place to play and the energized kid-friendly programs. Last night, when I arrived for pickup, there was music playing and Rick was grilling burgers and hot dogs.

The kids are learning a great sport, as well as having a great time. There is a fantastic atmosphere at our Halls Ferry tennis courts.
