George Carter Buford

George Carter Buford died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 79.

Born in Ackerman, he was the son of the late “Buster” Buford and Esther Stewart Buford and had been a resident of Vicksburg most of his life.

Mr. Buford was a graduate of Culkin Academy and William Carey College. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a retired construction engineer and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn B. Derriso and her husband, Claude, of Bolton and Susan B. House and her husband, Jimmy, of Madison; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Talbert Buford, Jasper Buford and Pete Buford, all of Vicksburg; and one sister, Dattie Mae Hughes of Vicksburg.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, James Dalton Buford; a sister, Elizabeth Hoben; and a brother, “Buster” Buford Jr.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Macon Phillips, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service. Interment will be private.
