Steven Wayne May

Steven Wayne May lost his battle with cancer and gained a place in Heaven on Nov. 5, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 63.
Born in Pascagoula, he was the son of the late James W. May and Grace Patrick May. Mr. May joined the U.S. Army on July 13, 1966, serving three years, one of which was in Vietnam. For several years, he was employed at LeTourneau and Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant as a welder. He was later employed by Day Security Service as a guard and as a guard for Anderson-Tully Company for 10 years. He was a member of Triumph Church.
He is survived by his wife and caregiver, Linda Carol May of Vicksburg; three daughters, Tracy May and Lisa Cummins, both of Vicksburg, and Teresa Campbell of Wesson; eight grandchildren, Gena Scarcella, Candice May, Stephanie Williams, Brittanie Smythe, Andrew Campbell, Susan Dickerson, James Scarcella and Caleb Steven May; two great-granddaughters, Makayla Lynn Scarcella and Trinity Shyann Williams; and a brother, James May of Vicksburg.
Mr. May was anticipating the birth of his third great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Ann May, and his brother, Benny “Buddy” May.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Triumph Church with the Rev. Mike Fields and the Rev. Rick McAlister officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Riles Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Triumph Church.
Pallbearers will be James Scarcella, Andrew Campbell, Gary Boone, Don Cummins, Dane Stewart and Robert Campbell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be James May, Randy Stewart, Thomas Powell, Randy Grey, David May, Etienne (Joe) Trahan and Danny Dunigan.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS, 39213. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Providence Hospice Nurses, especially Melinda Leisner and to the Rev. Rick McAlister.
