“This brings the community together and gives people the chance to hear others sing,” event coordinator Mark Jones said.

Jones said a total of $10,000 will be awarded to winners. Divisions will be figured according to the number of entries, and created based on skill level, age and group size.

Jones is expecting at least 70 entries, “about the same as last year,” he said. “The talent has been very good — just like it has been. We’ve got a lot more people from Jackson this year.”

Preliminaries will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and 3. Finalists will compete at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 following a day of holiday activities throughout the city, including the annual downtown Christmas Parade of Lights.

Solo performances are limited to four minutes, and groups or choirs are limited to five. A piano will be provided.

Each music selection will be recorded and played on V105.5 on Christmas Eve, Jones said.

In Vicksburg, entry forms can be picked up at any McDonald’s, RiverHills Bank or the UPS Store on Pemberton Square Boulevard. In Port Gibson, forms are available at RiverHills Bank.

Entries can be faxed to WVBG at 601-636-2246 or dropped off at the UPS Store. The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday.

Four-day audience tickets are $10, and single-night tickets are $5 at the door or in advance at the UPS Store. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free.
