A winter shadow

The shadow of a 3-inch cannon is cast on the side of Fort Hill as the sun sets Sunday. The cannon was used by the Tennessee heavy artillery, river batteries and the army of Vicksburg under the command of Capt. T.N. Johnston. A detachment of the company served at Fort Hill from May 19, 1863, until the end of the Vicksburg Campaign on July 4, 1863. The National Weather Service was forecasting seasonally cool and clear temperatures for today and Tuesday. (Meredith Spencer*The Vicksburg Post)
