ERDC’s Jones named chief of GSL division

Randy Jones has been named chief of Mobility Systems within the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center.

Jones is a research civil engineer who began his ERDC career 26 years ago in GSL’s Soil and Rocks Mechanics division.

He has led in the initiation, development and completion of research programs and laboratory and field tests.

He also has led and managed several multi-disciplinary, multi-laboratory and multi-agency research teams.

Jones has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University and a master’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa.

He has participated in the Secretary of the Army’s Research and Study Fellowship Program.

Jones’ honors include Special Act or Service Awards, the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, the ERDC Award for Outstanding Achievement in Technology Transfer and the ERDC Award for Outstanding Team Effort.

He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the International Society of Terrain-Vehicle Systems and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
