Janie Paine Metzen died Jan. 7, 2009. She was 98 years old.

Janie was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg, and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas R. Paine and Deborah Godwin Paine; her husband, Erle N. Metzen; and 11 of her brothers and sisters, including the Rev. Rudolph Paine and Robert Paine, all of Vicksburg.

She is survived by one brother, Joseph O. Paine of Natchez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition, Janie is survived by her son, Richard Hunt, and his wife, Rebecca; eight grandchildren, Robin Minder, James Hunt, Julie Hudson, Brian Hunt, Richard Hunt II, Trevor Hunt, Millicent Hunt and Miranda Bell; and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tanner and Tessa Minder, Richard III and Laney Hunt, Arely Hudson and Harlie Hunt.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Porters Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
