Meeting Tuesday, the Vicksburg Board of Architectural Review:
• OK’d a request by Bob White to demolish a house at 911 Clay St. that has been damaged by fire.
• OK’d a request by Salaheldin Elkhalil to install door and window guards at the Speed Mart convenience store, 2320 Washington St. Separately, the board denied a request by Elkhalil to install an internally lit electronic sign at the business, as they are not allowed in the historic district according to architectural review board guidelines. Elkhalil said he would return to the board with a plan for an externally lit sign.
• OK’d a request from S.J. Tuminello to build a fellowship hall at the St. Luke Church of God in Christ, 915 First East St.
• OK’d a request from Kansas City Southern Railroad to demolish eight vacant buildings at 2207, 2209 and 2405 Railroad Alley, and 2210, 2214, 2218, 2220 and 2308 Pearl St. Riverside Construction Company Vice President Don Miller Jr. said the company is under contract to complete the demolitions and lot clearings, and speculated the majority of the work will be completed within two weeks. Miller said to his knowledge the lots would remain vacant once cleared and landscaped with grass.
• OK’d meeting minutes from Oct. 13 and Nov. 19.
• In a separate meeting preceding the architectural review board meeting, the Vicksburg Historic Preservation Committee — which includes the same board members — approved a request from Stacy Douglas to have the Captain Kain House at 2530 Oak St. listed as a Vicksburg Landmark.
