Before serious salvage operations were started to recover the gunboat Cairo, the pilot house, top photo, and a cannon were brought up and displayed at City Front. Though the Cairo was a Union vessel, it had at last been “captured” by the South, so a Confederate battle flag was attached to the cannon. These photos were taken in September 1960 and are from the Old Court House Museum collection.
