Second man arrested in thefts at Hinds

A second man has been arrested in a Thursday burglary at Hinds Community College.

Reginald Davis, 22, 1908 Walnut St., Vicksburg, surrendered to Warren County authorities at 2:30 p.m. Monday and was charged with business burglary at the college on Mississippi 27, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Sunday, Dennis Matthew Johnson, 21, 3062 Woodvine Road, Lorman, was charged with grand larceny, business burglary, auto burglary and possession of burglary tools after deputies saw him driving near Monroe Street with parts of the missing computers and a hydraulic device to unlock vehicle doors.

Both men are accused of taking a Sony DVD player valued at $250 and three Dell desktop  computers valued at $1,500 each from a classroom.

Davis was released from the Warren County Jail on $10,000 bond Monday evening, and Johnson remains without bond pending an initial appearance in court today, Pace said.

Two men in jail for drug violations

Drug charges landed two Vicksburg men in the Warren County Jail, records showed.

Emerson Byrd, 51, 417 Farmer St., was taken to jail for possession of crack cocaine and being held without bond pending an initial appearance in court. He had been arrested by Vicksburg police and agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics at Farmer and Jefferson streets at about 5 p.m. Monday.

Separately, Michael A. Robinson, 23, 1508 Ethel St., was being held without bond on a drug court violation.

Foot chase, pot stash lead to man’s arrest

A Vicksburg man was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after a traffic stop that turned into a foot chase on Clay Street Monday night.

Warren County Deputy David Lambert was traveling behind Kevin Maurice Palmer, 26, 109 Drusilla Lane, who was driving a 1994 Lincoln Town Car, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

The driver fled on foot and was quickly caught by deputies Lambert had called for assistance, the sheriff said.

Officials found about a pound of marijuana in his car at about 11:30 p.m., Pace said.

Palmer was being held at the Warren County Jail without bond pending an initial appearance in court.

Two men arrested minutes after burglary

Two Vicksburg men were arrested at Randolph and Farmer streets minutes after a home burglary was reported Monday afternoon.

At 12:01, officials arrested Angelo Deshawn Simpson, 21, 520 Berryman Road, and Kenneth Charles Ross Jr., 23, 704 Lee St., after responding to a home burglary in progress in the 700 block of Farmer Street, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

The two men had left the residence empty-handed before police arrived, Stewart said.

Simpson was in the Warren County Jail on $15,000 bond, and Ross, who was on probation for a grand larceny conviction, was held on $25,000 bond.

City man charged with $3,500 in mischief

A Vicksburg man was released from the Warren County Jail after being held for felony malicious mischief, records showed.

Jeffery Parnell Lewis, 26, 523 Fairground St., was arrested at Vicksburg police headquarters and charged with mischief to property, with damages assessed at $3,500, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department said. No location for the crime was given.

He was released on a $2,500 bond.

Gun reported missing in Brookwood

A weapon was reported missing in Warren County Friday, records showed.

At 4:17 p.m. a .38-caliber snub-nose revolver valued at $250 was reported stolen from an unlocked 2008 Chevrolet 2500 pickup in the 200 block of Brookwood Drive.
