Compassionate helpers

I want to commend the crews from AmeriCorps on the work they are doing in Yazoo County.

They have worked so hard over the last week assisting those affected by the tornadoes there. I have had the honor of working on several sites with them.

They are hard working, professional, compassionate and a joy to be affiliated with. They have cleared yards, tarped roofs, loaded and unloaded semis, hauled limbs and debris out of yards and off of houses. They have lent a caring ear as well as a warm and caring smile to those who have lost everything.

They will do anything that is asked of them. They truly care about those they are helping.

I think they deserve a pat on the back and recognition in the paper for the wonderful work they are doing. In Yazoo County I have witnessed total devastation — the worst that nature can bring — but in the midst of this I have also found the best of human nature and that is found in the smiling faces and can do attitude of these, our Vicksburg-based, AmeriCorps crews.
