Vicksburg fire officials are asking citizens and business owners to be wary of people offering to inspect fire extinguishers and other fire safety equipment for a fee.

Vicksburg Fire Investigator Leslie Decareaux said reports have been made regarding people entering homes and businesses claiming to check fire equipment and fire extinguishers.

“I’m afraid with the economy the way it is, we might have more,” Decareaux said.

Anyone with information should call the VFD at 601-634-4566 if someone requests cash for services without providing a valid receipt.
