Whatley couple to be honored for 50th today

Jan and Harold Whatley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 19, 2010. They will be honored with a reception from 2 until 4 p.m. today at the B’nai B’rith Literary Club in Vicksburg. All family and friends are invited to attend.

The couple met in 1960 and were married at Wiggins Baptist Church in Carthage.

They have two children, James H. “Scooter” Whatley III and wife Necole of Madison and Angel Whatley Smith and husband Brandon of Oxford. They also have six grandchildren: Desireé Whatley of Miami, Fla.; Connor Whatley and Austin Whatley, both of Madison; and Stratton Smith, Sharpe Smith and Slay Smith, all of Oxford.

Jan retired as a nursing instructor from Hinds Community College after 31 years. Harold retired as a civil engineer for the Corps of Engineers after 41 years.
