Alphea Smith Dykes

COLUMBIA — Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Mrs. Alphea Smith “Phe” Dykes of Eagle Lake who passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010. She was 59.
Burial will follow the service at Green’s Creek Cemetery in Carson, Miss., with Brothers Glen Nace and Dwight Sibley officiating.
A native of Columbia, Mrs. Dykes was born June 13, 1951, to the late Clyde and Bertie Smith Smith. She was a homemaker, of the Baptist faith and a member of Eagle Lake Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved her dog, “Tinker.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Merold Smith, Gaston Smith, Marcus Smith and Clyde Jr. Smith; and one sister, Varnetta Yates.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Dykes of Eagle Lake; a son, Mike Dykes and wife Rhonda of Columbia; a daughter, Tina Skinner and husband Michael of Crystal Springs; five brothers, Kelcie Smith of Purvis, Schelian Smith and wife Barbara of Columbia, Louie Smith and wife Janice of Prentiss, Syvoid Smith and wife Pat of Spring, Texas, and Sam Smith and wife Shine of Wiggins; one sister, Bertie Zipfell and husband Charles of Chicago; six grandchildren, Cody Skinner, Kevin Skinner, Corey Skinner, Amber Patterson, Robby Patterson, Robert Patterson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
