Two district administrative positions were filled by Vicksburg Warren School Board members Thursday night as they voted to hire an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and a director of federal programs.

By a 4-1 vote, with District 4 trustee Joe Loviza dissenting, the board approved Paula A. Johnson of Baton Rouge to oversee curriculum and instruction.

Dr. Laura Prather, who has worked for the district for 12 years and has been serving in an interim capacity as federal programs director since July 1, was officially named to the post with no dissent.

Loviza said his objection in Johnson’s case was based on Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Duran Swinford’s leaving trustees out of the process of finding a high-level district official, saying the board should have been informed about applicants, interviews and possible recommendations.
