Young man helped

Published 12:30 am Saturday, March 5, 2011

The day was cold. It had snowed and sleeted the night before. While walking my dog, Buster, I slipped and fell.

My left arm seemed to be broken. I called 911 and did not get a response immediately. I called out to passing traffic. I waved my cap in the air. None saw me, or at least, no one stopped to help.

My dog, Buster, stayed with me. He kept nudging my arm, trying to get me up, trying to help me. I placed another call to 911. They responded, but I had been on the cold ground for 45 minutes. A young man driving by saw me, stopped and helped me up. He waited with me until the rescuers came.

This young man, William Breland, was a hero to me that day. He is truly a good Samaritan. I’ve not been able to contact him. So, William, if you read this: God bless you for your kindness and help you extended me.
