Letter-writer’s name-calling inappropriate for publication

My latest disappointment in the Vicksburg paper is the reason for my writing my first letter to the editor. It is in reference to Mr. Frank Luchsinger’s letter about Kenny Williams and the record gar.
Since when has it been permissible to name-call in your letter to the editor section? Your own printed guideline states that there will be no abusive or defamatory statements allowed. I can understand Luchsinger’s opinion, but there is no reason to refer to anyone as a doofus. If he would have carefully read the article he would have learned that Williams tried to keep it alive and when he could not he donated it to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife.
I have never met Mr. Williams, but I would like to thank him for his donation. I am really looking forward to taking my family to the Wildlife Museum and seeing a Mississippi and possibly a world record gar on exhibit.
To Luchsinger: Everything must be in really good shape in Chicago for you to be concerned about something 750 miles away. I am sure glad you live in Chicago.
