Jaguars overpower Warren Central, 9-1

After knocking off a perennial power and an archrival, Warren Central was unable to complete a trifecta on Saturday.

Stanford Parks homered, Cody Marks went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles, and Madison Central ended Warren Central’s brief two-game winning streak with a 9-1 victory at Viking Field.

WC’s streak included wins over Northwest Rankin and Vicksburg, but the Vikings fell flat in their third game in as many days. They committed four errors against Madison that led to several unearned runs.

“We made some mistakes in the field. We weren’t able to get much going offensively, either. Their pitcher did a good job,” Warren Central coach Josh Abraham said.

Despite the loss, Abraham was happy with the three-day stretch that served as the start of a busy week and a half for the Vikings (4-4). They’re scheduled to play six games this week — including a division rematch with Vicksburg on Friday — and will have ended up playing nine games in a 10-day span.

“It was a very good weekend for us. I definitely like where we are and where we’re headed,” Abraham said. “We’re starting to play well, and that’s good coming into the division stretch.”

Parks’ two-run homer in the third inning put Madison Central (8-0) ahead 3-0. Warren Central cut it to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning on Will Stegall’s RBI single, but Madison answered with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to blow it open. Spencer Turnbull’s RBI double keyed the fifth-inning rally.

Turnbull finished 2-for-4 with the double, an RBI and two runs scored for the Jaguars, while Curt Chism was 2-for-4 with an RBI single and two runs scored.

Carlos Gonzalez and Josh Stuckey had two hits apiece for Warren Central.
