Arvis R. Dennis died Thursday, April 28, 2011, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.

Born in Laurel, he had been a resident of Vicksburg for 48 years. Mr. Dennis was a graduate of Mississippi State University and later served in the Army. He was a retired civil engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Campbell Dennis; daughter, Jennifer Dennis Nesbitt (David) of White Lake, Mich.; son, Eric Duane Dennis of Nashville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Natalie and Olivia Nesbitt; his parents, R.E. (Pat) Dennis and Clodell Jones Dennis of Vicksburg; and his brother, Barry Dennis of Louisville, Ky.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bowmar Baptist Church. Visitation will be today from 2 until 5 p.m. at Riles Funeral Home and Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donald Dennis, Sidney Dennis, Van Jones, Benny Jones, Danny Swancy, Joe McCormick, Bob McClure and James Bridges.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Coffee Club and Sunday school class.
