Meeting Tuesday:

• Heard updates about the Southern Cultural Heritage Center from Executive Director Annette Kirklin.

• OK’d a resolution seeking assistance from the Warren County Board of Supervisors for anticipated flooding in the Green Meadow subdivision.

• Ratified a resolution giving permission for residents and industries in South Vicksburg to fill and raise the railroad bed in an attempt to keep the Mississippi River from flooding properties.

• Approved city clerk to advertise for sealed bids for an Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) for the Vicksburg Municipal Airport on U.S. 61 South.

• OK’d hiring AJA Management and Technical Services for $8,000 of grant money to implement and design the construction phase of the energy conservation block grant program.

• OK’d city clerk to re-advertise sealed bids to construct a fuel farm, access road and truck parking area at the Vicksburg Municipal Airport.

• OK’d a resolution for the preparation and submittal of an application to Mississippi Department of Public Safety under the fiscal year 2012 Occupant Protection grant program. The grant is $15,000 and requires no local match.

• OK’d a request from Vicksburg Police Department to hold a walk from City Hall at Walnut Street to the Old Court House Museum on Cherry Street Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for the Community Walk/Rally Against Violence.

• OK’d a request from parks and recreation to purchase tennis balls and concession items for the Beverly O’Neal Tennis Tournament at Halls Ferry tennis facility May 27 to 29.

• Discussed dilapidated buildings and overgrown lot codes and OK’d Victor Gray-Lewis, director of Buildings and Inspections, to proceed to cut, clean and demolish the following properties: 2714 Drummond St., 1228 Grammar St., 1603 Bodley St., 1104 Third North St., 1604 Bodley St. and 1318 Grove St.

• Discussed with city resident Beverly Thompson her property at 150 Openwood Lane.

• Rescinded a motion from Feb. 7 establishing special assessment for demolition and site clearing of the following properties: 2014 Ford St. and 1402 Main St. Accepted corrected letter establishing special assessment and adopted order for demolition and site clearing of the same properties.

• Accepted letter establishing special assessment and adopted resolution for cutting and cleaning or order for demolition and site clearing of the following properties: 500 Sycamore St.; 811 Bowman St.; 2501 Roosevelt Ave.; 1518 Sky Farm Ave.; 270 Railroad Alley; 20, 24, 30 and 38 Marys Alley; 63 Brown Alley; 531 Hugo St.; 1508 First East St.; 803 Fifth North St.; 2109 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.; and 1401 High St.

• OK’d City Clerk to advertise notice to public regarding the city’s hazard mitigation plan.

• OK’d request from Vicksburg Police Department to purchase 22 car seats for $814 for child passenger safety.

• OK’d agreement with We Care Inc. and Mission 66 Baseball League for use of the city’s baseball fields.

• OK’d a request for a $300 petty cash fund for the city pool for swim lesson registration.

• OK’d a $100 request for hole sponsorship from Mississippi Children’s Home Services for Warren County Golf Championship at Clear Creek Golf Course.

• OK’d claims docket.

In closed session, the board:

• Discussed three resignations in police, water treatment plant and building maintenance departments; four personnel matters in water treatment plant, vehicle maintenance and parks and recreation; and two litigation matters.

The board meets next at 10 a.m. Monday at City Hall Annex room 109.
