City native’s works set for SCHC event

The Southern Cultural Heritage Center will host an exhibit by Vicksburg native Bill Ferris.

Give My Poor Heart Ease: Voices of the Mississippi Blues, an exhibit based on his book of photos of blues artists from the 1960s and ’70s, will open with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. July 5.

Ferris is an American author and scholar and former chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. He co-founded the Center for Southern Folklore in Memphis and was the founding director of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi. He is co-editor of “The Encyclopedia of Southern Culture.”

The exhibition will run until Aug. 5. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
