Turner Ashby Ross

Turner Ashby Ross of Vicksburg died at his home June 29, 2011.

Born Dec. 14, 1939, in McNair, Miss., Mr. Ross grew up in Vicksburg. He was preceded in death by his son, Kirk Ross; his parents, Nevel Ross and Viva Davenport Ross; his sisters, Lena Hearn and Lois Ross Cain; and his brothers, Melvin Ross, Robert Ross, Harry Ross and Glyn Ross.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Parker Ross of Vicksburg; his sisters, Estelle Bryant of Fayette and Frances Lee of Biloxi; five children, daughter Annette and husband Gary Pounds of Warner Robins, Ga., son Ronnie and wife Gladys Ross of Gulfport, son Bobby Ross of Warner Robins, daughter LeAnn and husband James Lee of Vicksburg and son Jonathan and wife April Ross of Vicksburg; 11 grandchildren, Niki Pounds of Warner Robins, Michelle Pounds of Warner Robins, Gary Pounds of Warner Robins, Jennifer and husband Jamie Ross of Edwards, Sara Ross of Edwards, Jenni Ross of Kathleen, Ga., Alicia and husband John Pate of Lake Park, Ga., Bobby Ross of Warner Robins, Jason Lee of Vicksburg, Samantha Ross of Vicksburg and Dalton Ross of Vicksburg; eight great-grandchildren, Payne, Christopher, Derrick, Lexi, Breanna, Taylor, Alysa and Savannah; and his beloved cat, Ellie.

Mr. Ross was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church. He was a pipeline welder and builder.

He and his sons traveled the country working together for many years, teaching them the values of hard work. He was a wonderful husband, loving father and devoted grandfather.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Riles Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Mitch Martin Jr., Jason Odom, David Neumann, Jay Johnson, Chris Johnson and Jamie Ross.
