Help overflowed
This spring, our community and state suffered yet another disaster — the historic flooding of the Mississippi River.
The effects of this catastrophic flood will have a lasting impact.
I would like to take a moment and express our sincere gratitude to each and every individual, organization, volunteer, neighbor or friend who provided outstanding support.
The response from the community was overwhelming. I graciously express our thanks to the American Red Cross volunteers and shelter managers for rapidly deploying personnel to assist everyone.
We appreciate the generosity of our local business community for their unending support. This is truly a giving community, and we are grateful to each of you.
On behalf of the Capital River Chapter of the American Red Cross, I extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who assisted and made a difference in the lives of others.

Spectrum success
The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation would like to sincerely thank the many individuals and organizations that assisted in making Spectrum a hugely successful five-week summer art program.
This program was made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. It took over 50 instructors, assistants and volunteers to accomplish all the tasks involved.
So much appreciation goes out to the parents of the 60 kids involved. It took a dedicated effort to have your child at the center everyday from 1 to 4 p.m.
We are so grateful to the financial and in-kind sponsorships of the City of Vicksburg, Sirobe Carstafhnur, Papa John’s, Jason Hopkins, The Home Depot, Kroger, Walmart, Big Lots, McDonalds, Nebletts, the Old Court House Museum, Mutual Credit Union and others.
The Spectrum workers consisted of representatives from all over the community who worked diligently each day. This was a one-of-kind program that touched many lives, and we are so grateful!

Summer ball sizzled
Our second-year Mission 66 summer youth baseball league in honor of James “Fuzzy” Johnson would like to say thank you for all your support and help in making this a successful summer for our youths.
First of all, we would like to give thanks to our Heavenly Father. Thanks to all of our Mission 66 youth baseball players; Mayor Paul Winfield, North Ward Alderman Michael Mayfield and the city’s recreational department; all of our sponsors; We Care Community Center; the James “Fuzzy” Johnson Memorial Park chairman, president, vice president and board members; and the parents, coaches, umpires and volunteers.
Thanks to each one of you who played a part in making this a successful summer of youth baseball.
