David Waymond Roach

David Waymond Roach, age 64, of Vicksburg and formerly of Gulfport, Miss., passed into eternal rest at home surrounded by his family on Saturday morning, July 16, 2011.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tina Angeline Roach; his father, David Richard Roach; his mother, Virginia Lavern Hall Jackson; and stepfather, Willie Orville Jackson.
David is survived by two sons, Jason Shuttles and wife Kathy, Dewayne Roach and wife Stephanie and six grandchildren, all of Vicksburg. Also surviving are three sisters, Patricia R. Graham and husband Bill of Goldsboro, N.C., Judy C. Brown and husband Mac of Vicksburg and Fran J. Dufrene of Gautier, Miss.; six nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and -nephews.
David was a Vietnam veteran with honorable service to his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifleman Badge.
He was a Master Mason AF&AM, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 5 in Gulfport, having served as commander 1984-85 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars USA Vicksburg Post 10734.
David had been employed with the U.S. Post Office in Gulfport and was a retired self-employed carpenter. He also served his home communities as patrol officer with the Gulfport and Vicksburg Police departments.
David fought his battle with multiple cancers with strength, dignity and courage after being diagnosed as stage four in November 2010. His cancers were attributed to direct exposure to the dioxin Agent Orange while serving in the Republic of Vietnam.
Funeral services are arranged by Glenwood Funeral Home of Vicksburg with visitation on Tuesday at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service with military honors at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Pennock officiating.
Veterans of the VFW and DAV will serve as honorary pallbearers.
David’s cremated remains will be scattered on the Mississippi Gulf Coast at a later date.
