AmeriCorps at work

A new crop of AmeriCorps volunteers has arrived and is busy with training. Two flooded homes on the street that are set for demolition are being used by the volunteers, who arrived in the city this month and are being housed at the former All Saints’ Episcopal School on Confederate Avenue. The 18- to 24-year-olds assist in disaster relief and community service projects in exchange for funds to be used for college.
