Rachel Mackey Wilson

PORT GIBSON — Rachel Mackey Wilson died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Patient Choice Hospital in Port Gibson. She was 88.

Mrs. Wilson was a longtime elder at Christian Chapel Church in Port Gibson, where she served on the Board of Trustees, sang in the choir and was president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She served as program and awards committee chairman for the Mississippi Christian Missionary Convention. She taught in the Claiborne County School District for more than 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Lillie Hampton Mackey; a son, William King Jr.; and nine siblings.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Thornton of Prairie View, Texas, Barbara King of Jackson and Kendall Williams of Port Gibson; two sisters, Chestina Mackey and Juliette Clayton, both of Columbus, Ohio; three brothers, Malcolm Mackey and Robert Mackey, both of Port Gibson, and John Mackey of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Mary Johnson of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Christian Chapel Church with Pastor Rufus Edward officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Sunday at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the service.
